Perfect is the enemy of done.

I have been putting off starting this blog forever. I had a few false starts where I tried to overengineer this because ‘I used to be a webdesigner’ – but truth be told I’m out of practice, and just didn’t have the time to dedicate to it and I would get so far in a super special snowflake design and setup, then no further.

So this is ‘Done’. Not perfect, but it is a thing that exists. Vanilla WordPress, just so I can start doing what I actually want to do. Firstly document my hobby journey, the stuff I’m working on, both the painting and modelling but also the fluff and concepts around it. But secondly allow me to be creative in my own space while documenting my thoughts, ideas and inspirations.

The why? Well I used to share my stuff on Instagram, and I still do, and even have tried Twitter (X is a stupid name). But frankly they’re both a bit of a bin fire at the moment, with much less engagement and increased dick-headedness. I’m finding my time on there to be more frustrating these days, well not just there, on my phone more generally too. This is a bit of a consious uncoupling from the oblivion of numbness my phone offers.

I started the year with the intention of working on myself a bit, I want to read more, write more, work less and do shit I enjoy when I can – generally treat myself a bit better and spend more time doing stuff I love and with people I love. I used to try and cram in freelance projects, I’m still struggling to say no to some of these to pay for the next cool thing I wouldn’t have time to do because I’m busy freelancing. For the first time in my life I’m fortunate enough to be working a job I enjoy and can afford to do this – so I intend to take advantage of it.

So here is my intention to share my stuff in a format and environment I control – where it suits I can do longer form posts or pages, with galleries or quotes or whatever. Or I can simply post a picture of what I am working on. Share my thoughts on the book I’ve just finished, or film I’ve just watched. Whatever.

“When I am numb, how can I make myself connected? I can’t. But I can try to create an environment that is welcoming for connection if it should turn up.”

If there is discussion here then great, if not I’m still working away in my own lane, without the overhead of ‘likes’ and having the stats of every engagement put in my face.

Here we go. We move.
